William "Bill" Allan Routt

William (Bill) Allan Routt, born on August 30th, 1944 in Gary, Indiana passed away at the age of 77 on November 11th, 2021 in Pittsboro, NC.

Bill grew up with one brother, Doug, and two sisters, Evie and Maddie.  He attended Pennsylvania State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.  Bill joined Bell Labs after completing his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Carnegie Institute of Technology.

Bill met and married the love of his life, Patricia (Trish) Smith.  They were married in 1968 in Evanston, IL and raised three children (Billy, Gavin and Brittany) in Naperville, IL and Coral Springs, FL. 

Bill took a job in academia, and he and Trish moved to Pittsboro, NC in 1992, where they remained until his death in 2021.  Bill worked as a professor and department head at UNC Charlotte and Wake Technical Community College

Bill is survived by his wife Trish; sons Billy (Teresa), of Danville, CA, Gavin (Melanie) of New Orleans, LA; daughter Brittany (Quentin) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Desiree, Anna, Katie, Lily, Darren, Autumn, Brandy, William Allan Routt II (Deuce), Jaiden, Micah, Finn, and Declan; siblings Doug, Evie and Maddie.

Services will be held on Tuesday, November 16th at 11:00 AM at the Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory in Pittsboro, NC.
