Wilbur Lee Moore

Wilbur Lee Moore “PePaw”, age 92, died at the Siler City Center in Siler City, NC on January 11, 2023. Wilbur was born in Chatham County on January 25, 1930, to the late Edgar L. and Fannie Johnson Moore.

Surviving Wilbur, the love of his life, Brenda Ray Moore of Pittsboro, NC, two stepsons, Richard Norris (Brian Schmock) of Silk Hope, NC  and Jay Norris (Ann) of Silk Hope, NC, step granddaughter, Kayla Norris, step grandsons Justin Norris, Daniel Norris, and James Norris and four step-great grandchildren.

Wilbur, while in the Army was a cook. He helped organize, create, and establish the first rescue squad in Pittsboro, NC. He also was a member of the Pittsboro Fire Department many years ago. Wilbur retired from UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after 32 years of service as an Electrical Supervisor in the Maintenance department.

He loved animals, especially his dog, Sheba, which preceded him in death. He and Brenda enjoyed going to Chick-Fil-A, where they ate several times a week and where they became friends with so many people and their children. They ate breakfast every Thursday with some of those friends until the pandemic hit. On Sundays, they enjoyed eating at Dry Dock.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 12-12:50PM at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory with the Funeral Service immediately following at 1:00PM with the Rev. Dan Robinson presiding. The Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the charity of your choice in Wilbur’s memory.
