Warner Hyde Obituary

Warner Fusselle Hyde, 39, died peacefully in his sleep at home in Pittsboro, NC on Thursday, May 31, 2018. A native of Spartanburg, he was born October 16, 1978, and was the son of Alicia Ruth Fusselle of Spartanburg and Max Thomas Hyde of Gaffney.

Warner Hyde was a distinguished professional artist, with a focus in ceramic sculpture and forms. In Warner's mind, nature and art were one, and were inextricable. Associate Professor Hyde taught at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC for more than ten years and was tenured at the early age of 34. Warner won major national art competitions and his work has traveled throughout some European museums. He was a true outdoorsman, descendant of Daniel Boone as he was. He adored hunting, fishing and observing keenly every detail of God's creation from a deer stand. Warner graduated from Brevard College and held the terminal degree in studio art, of the Master of Fine Arts from Clemson University.

In addition to his parents, Warner is survived by his loving wife, Tracie Lynn Hyde; his children, Lucy Boone and Warner Hudson Hyde, of Tryon, NC; stepchildren, Kayla and Carter; his older brother, Max Thomas Hyde Jr. (Eliza); his nephew, Thomas; and three nieces, Lilly Ruth, Rose and Annabelle Hyde, all of Spartanburg. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 3, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, by The Rev. Joanne R. Hull and The Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Following the service the family will receive friends at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made in memory of Warner to Hatcher Garden & Woodland Preserve, PO Box 2337, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
