Tom, his brother George, and his parents moved to Sea cliff LI in 1935. "Sea Cliff is a small village overlooking Hempstead Harbor on the north shore of Long Island about 25 miles East of NYC. Founded in 1871 as a Methodist campground for New Yorkers, by 1883 it had become the incorporated village of Sea Cliff. The square-mile community was noted for it's carpenter gothic or gingerbread architecture. The Sea Cliff Yacht Club was founded in 1893, a sprawling Victorian Structure, high on a cliff overlooking the harbor.
When WW2 came along Dec 7 1941, Tom was a freshman in high school. Because of the war the Yacht Club was underutilized, and the kids got to join the Yacht Club. Tom crewed snipes( a class of sailboats) throughout high school and college at New York University. Tom raced snipes for 25 years and he made some wonderful life-long friendships."
