Richard "Dick" Stuart Belanger

Richard “Dick” Stuart Belanger, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and so much more, passed away peacefully in his home on April 8, 2023, surrounded by those he loved after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Eileen; his son Adam Belanger and his wife Stefanie; his daughter Katie Belanger and her husband Eric Grimes; his brother Jeffrey Belanger and his wife Pamela; his two grandchildren, Chris and Daniella, both of whom he absolutely adored; and his large and beloved extended family.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Clara (Dickinson) Belanger, his father, Donald Wilfred Belanger, and his brother, David Belanger.

Originally from Waterville, ME, Dick and Eileen met in college and lived in several states along the East Coast before settling in Chapel Hill, NC ten years ago.  Dick retired at the age of 58 after working as a software engineer and was known for his analytical, engineering mind.  Dick had a special knack for reading a book and learning how to do just about anything.  He loved to examine problems to find solutions that he could do himself – all with the hope of inevitably saving a few bucks.  He enjoyed woodworking, golf, gardening, home repair and improvement, casinos, and traveling around the world with Eileen. But most of all, Dick loved spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren.

Dick was extremely caring and devoted to his family and friends.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed him – whether it was by lending a tool or a sound piece of advice.  Dick loved playing poker with his neighbors and was always glad to joke around with the neighborhood children during his long walks with his beloved Yorkie, Jackson.  He had an infectious sense of humor and was known for his wisecracks or teasing remarks for those he loved.

Dick was so many things to so many people and will be missed dearly.  He was known as “Cheater Commish,” “Uncle Knee-High,” “Poppa,” “Naked Man,” but he was so much more to so many people.  Wordle and fantasy football will not be the same without him.  He will be missed dearly.

The family will receive friends at Donaldson Funeral Home on Thursday April 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with a Prayer Service to follow at 12 noon.  In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, https://www.stjude.org/donate/srch/donate.
