James Ervin Dixon, 80 years, died suddenly on June 19, 2022 while celebrating Father’s Day with Stuart and Jenny.
James was born in Granville County, North Carolina, to the late Robert Ervin Dixon and Mildred Dixon. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Burnette Dixon. During their wonderful life together they enjoyed many years of family camping, vacationing in Myrtle Beach, SC and travelling across the United States.
He spent his entire adult life living and working in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He worked several decades at Fowlers Food Store. After that business closed James continued to work in customer service in Chapel Hill until his final position with UNC Physicians & Associates. As a member of the Tarheel Sertoma Club, one of his favorite activities was selling hot dogs at UNC football and basketball games. James was also a very active member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He loved helping to coordinate many of the church activities like BBQ sales, homecoming meals and preparations for other celebration events. His other love was keeping his yard looking pristine. There was never a twig, pinecone or sweet gum ball lingering in his yard.
James is survived by his only son, Stuart Dixon (wife Jenny); sister, Carolyn McGee; niece, Carol Rautiola (husband Eric) and great-nephew, Ruslan; and great-niece, Larissa.
James was honored to have an extended family whom have been a vital part of his entire adult life. Jim and Nancy Hodgin and their daughters, Sheryl Thompson and Marty Lile; granddaughters, Danielle Allison, Traclynne Allison and Beeler Lile held a very special place in his heart. Throughout his life he loved them and treated them as true blood relatives.
In addition, James had a long-time special friend, Virginia Morris, who was his companion in his later years. He continued to enjoy traveling on bus trips and to the beach with her. He will be greatly missed by Ms. Morris and her sons, Jeff and Paul, and granddaughters, Kirby and Lindy.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 6-8pm at Donaldson Funeral Home, Pittsboro, NC. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 11:00am at Mt. Pleasant UMC.
