Francis "Frank" Shaw, III Obituary

Francis “Frank” John Shaw III, age 91, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2019 at Transitions Hospice Home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Frank was born in Buffalo, New York on November 25, 1927 to Francis John and Dorothy Miller Shaw.

 

At the age of 18, Frank enlisted in the US Navy serving as Seaman 1st Class and received an honorable discharge in 1948.  He completed his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Class of 1951.  He was a member of Phi Sigma Phi. Frank met his wife Millie, on a blind date set up by his sister, Marjorie.  Married June 17, 1950 in St Mary’s Catholic Church in Oswego, New York they started their married life in student housing on the campus of RPI. Frank and Millie raised their two children in Olean, New York, Corpus Christi, Texas, Caracas, Venezuela, West Islip, New York and finally settled in Houston, Texas for 34 years before moving to Pittsboro, North Carolina in 2012.

 

Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

 

In addition to his parents, Frank is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred O’Neil Shaw; his sisters Marjorie Shaw Guernsey and Patricia Shaw Harvey Cooney. Frank is survived by his son Francis (Jack) John Shaw IV and his wife Cyndi Fagala Shaw of Meadows, Texas; daughter Deborah Shaw Heath and her husband Jon Allen Heath of Pittsboro, North Carolina; beloved grandchildren Rebekah Heath Tozer and her husband Jeff Tozer of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; John Ryan Heath of Raleigh, North Carolina; Aaron Michael Health and his wife Sandra Meyer Heath of Fullerton, California; Bonnie Heath Ogden and her husband Marques Ogden of Cary, North Carolina; Chelsea Elizabeth Shaw Nivens of Dallas, Texas; Connor Francis Shaw of San Diego, California; Mariah Lyn Shaw of Dallas, Texas; Kali Shaw Umphenour and her husband Michael Umphenour of Waxahachi, Texas; Taryn Rae Shaw of Meadows, Texas; beloved great-granchildren William Queen, Ethan Queen, River Heath, Asher Queen, Mackenzie Tozer, Reed Heath, Ava Wei, Finley Heath, Macy Tozer, Knox Heath, Maverick Heath and Farrah Ogden.  Frank is also survived by brother James Edward Shaw and his wife Audrey  Shaw of Aiken, South Carolina; sister-in-law Joanne O’Neil McMahon and her husband Ted McMahon of Oswego, New York as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial service of Mass will be held 10 o’clock the morning of Tuesday November 12, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Family would like to thank the staff of Transitions Palliative and Hospice Home and Dr Lisa Emrich of North Chatham Pediatric and Internal Medicine for their kindness and care.
