Eleanor Warren (Frye) English

Eleanor Warren English of Bedford, VA, died March 29, 2024, in Chapel Hill, NC, at the age of 97. She was the daughter of the late Faye Tittsworth Warren and Cloyd Byars Warren of Glade Spring, VA.

She is predeceased by her husband, William Dickenson English. She is also predeceased by her brother, William Jefferson Warren, of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law, Marie McLean Clark of Greensboro, NC; and nephew, Alexander W. McLean, of Jacksonville, FL. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Dickenson English, and her husband, James Wade Sheedy, of Rock Hill, SC; her son, Stephen Byars English, and his wife, Lisa Holloway English, of Chapel Hill, NC. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Parker Dickenson Sheedy of New York, NY; Marie Elizabeth English of Burlington, VT; Eleanor Byars English of Chapel Hill, NC; and Richmond English Sheedy of Washington, DC. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces: Ernest C. McLean III (Kathleen) of Atlanta, GA; Emmett E. McLean (Catherine) of Birmingham, AL; Jeffery S. Warren (Katherine) of Memphis, TN; Kim W. Henry (Curt) of Durham, NC; Susan W. Gilbert (Craig) of Durham, NC; and Mary Eleanor W. Jensen of Memphis, TN.

A retired teacher, Eleanor was a lifetime member of her professional organizations, the National Education Association and the Virginia Education Association. She was also a member of the Roanoke Valley Unitarian Church, the Democratic Party, and the Nobodies.

A graveside service will be conducted at Oakwood Cemetery, Bedford, VA, at 11:00 AM on July 13,2024.
