Arthur Ray Smith

Arthur Ray Smith, affectionately known as Gizzard, age 69, of Pittsboro, died Thursday, September 26, 2019 at home.

Arthur was born in Chatham County, on September 4, 1950 to the late Jessie Lewis Smith and Lillian Williams Smith.

Surviving relatives include his wife Bertha Mann Smith, two sons; Chad Smith of Pittsboro and David Smith and wife Jess of Pittsboro, two grandsons Zach and Wes Smith, and sister Cathy Smith of Sanford. He is also survived by his Mann family, which includes his mother-in-law Bertha Foy Mann (Mema) and very dear brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 3PM to 4PM at Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ. A Graveside Service will immediately follow at 4PM with Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Gary Leath presiding.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial contributions to be made in Arthur’s memory to UNC Hospice P.O. Box 1077 Pittsboro, NC 27312.
