William Edd O'Daniel

William Eddy O’Daniel, age 90, died Friday, March 21, 2025, at the SECU Jim and Betsy Bryan UNC Hospice House.   He was born on April 25, 1934, to the late Thomas Johnson O’Daniel and Sallie Blanche O’Daniel in Chatham County, NC.  He was raised in Chatham County and graduated from Pittsboro High School where he drove a school bus.

He entered the Army in 1956.  Eddy married Rachel Partin on August 2, 1958, and they had two children. Eddy was married to Rachel for 35 years until her death in 1993. He worked for Long Meadow Farms as a commercial route driver.  He then owned the Short Stop convenience store in Carrboro.   He was member of Carrboro United Methodist Church for more than 65 years.

After the death of his first wife, He married Phyllis Clapp, and they were married eighteen years.  He enjoyed all yard work and gardening.  His lawn was always immaculate, and people constantly commented on it.  He was very proud of his home and yard.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Rachel Partin O’Daniel, his sisters, Hazel Allen, Marjorie Pickard and his brother, Delos O’Daniel.

Eddy is survived by his wife, Phyllis Clapp O’Daniel, his daughter, Dawn Sanders of Chapel Hill, NC, his son Todd O’Daniel and wife Cynthia of Pittsboro, NC, his grandchildren, Colton Sanders, Connor Sanders both of Chapel Hill, Ryan O’Daniel and fiancé, Amanda Davis, of Matthews, NC and Kelsey O’Daniel of Pittsboro, NC.

Visitation will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 5PM-7PM and the funeral service will be Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 11:00AM at Carrboro United Methodist Church with Pastors Brian Faggert and David Harvin presiding.
