John Timothy Riggsbee, a United States Air Force retiree, passed away the day after Veteran’s Day, at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife Sherry, daughters, Julie and Brooke, son, Thomas, and his brothers Mike and Chris. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Taylor, Tristan, Gaby, Siera, Merrie, Jacob, Zach, and Olivia, and his great-grandchildren, Levi, Kaelyn, and Alivia.
Tim was born in Carrboro, NC, and attended Chapel Hill High School before entering active-duty service in 1966. During his service, he traveled across the world, including Taiwan, Philippines, Korea, and Japan as part of the Defense Courier Services and, most notably, served during the Vietnam War.
After his distinguished service, he joined the University of North Carolina Hospital Police Department, later achieving the rank of Captain. He was an active member of retiree community of this organization until his passing.
Tim was known as the unofficial Riggsbee car dealer and is best known for his uncanny ability to name any tune on the radio, prior to 2000, of course. He was a devoted Tarheels fan through and through.
The family will hold a celebration of life service on what would have been his 79th birthday on Saturday, 29 November 2025 at Donaldson Funeral Home in Pittsboro, NC at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Air Force Aid Society at www.afas.org.
Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the Riggsbee family.
