Thomas Orlandi Obituary

Thomas Orlandi passed away on February 28, 2024 at his home in Pittsboro NC.

He was born on December 12, 1939, in Monessen, Pennsylvania to the late Louis and Carmella Zimmaro Orlandi and lived in Pittsburgh until moving to North Carolina.

Tom was an accomplished woodworker, self-taught watchmaker, avid star gazer, and gardener extraordinaire.  He loved to cook, read, and visit libraries and museums in other cities during his travels. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Columbus Eisiminger; daughter Carmen Rice and husband John, two beloved granddaughters Madison Laethem and Emery Laethem, and a sister, Julie Johns of Pittsburgh.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister Josephine Lucy and brothers Delmar Orlandi and Louis Orlandi.

The family is deeply appreciative for the kind, compassionate, and loving care given to Tom during his final months by the fantastic staff of UNC Hospice and caregiver Raquel Pena.

No services are planned at this time, but Remembrance of Cherished Moments and Fly Me to the Moon Gathering will be held at a later date.

Final disposition of cremains will be by scattering in favorite places and interment at Arlington National Cemetary.

Donations may be made in Tom’s name to UNC Hospice (https://give.unc.edu/hfdonate?p=MFHO) or the Friends of the Chatham County Library (https://friendsccl.org/Donate)
