Susan Josephine (Dratch) Davies

Susan Josephine Davies, 66, passed away peacefully Sunday night, May 2nd, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Long Island, NY on April 19, 1955, to the late William and Sonia Dratch. 

She met her husband, Robert, when she was a freshman at SUNY Oneonta in NY state.  They would eventually marry in 1978 and remained married for 42 years.  They raised two boys in upstate NY, Jim and Rich. 

Sue worked several jobs in her lifetime, from real estate broker to typist, but would make the most impact running Robert’s chiropractic practice in Upstate New York.  Her and Robert became successful pillars within their community and her bright smile and caring attitude left warmth in the hearts of their patients, some of whom would become lifelong friends. 

She and Robert moved Chapel Hill, NC in the fall of 2020 in an effort to be closer to her firstborn son, Jim, wife Nicole and grandchildren, Sam and Evie.  Though she only lived in the area for six months before her passing, she came to love the area’s tall trees and temperate climate.  The sunny winter days were a far-cry from the snow in upstate NY and allowed her to spend time outside tending to her garden and playing golf.

Sue was also very passionate about boating and loved spending summer weekends on the St. Lawrence river in upstate NY.  Memories of watching Fourth of July fireworks on the boat to traveling across the turbulent waters of Lake Ontario are sweeter because of Sue’s wonderful and caring presence. 

Sue was very dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending time with them at any chance she could.  Her husband, sons and daughter-in-law were very special in her heart and she made a loving impact on each of them that will shape their lives ahead.  She was blessed to recently begin seeing her grandchildren more frequently since moving to NC and loved each of them very much. 

Susan is predeceased in death by her parents.  She leaves behind her loving husband Robert; and children; grandchildren as well as a niece and two nephews.

  Mrs. Davies’ family is deeply grateful to the staff of Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care of her. A Funeral Mass will be held 2:30 PM, Friday, May 7th, 2021 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill, NC. Burial will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro, NC.
