Steven Herier Obituary

Steven Andrew Herier September 17, 1965 – March 31, 2021 Pittsboro, NC Steve, 55, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at his home, after a courageous 2-year battle with prostate cancer.

The mold was broken when Steve was born to the late Gail and Donna Herier on September 17, 1965 in Springfield, Ohio. From the time he could walk, until his last days spent with NCAA March Madness basketball on his tv and 70’s rock radio playing in the background, Steve loved 2 things: basketball and music. Shoveling neighbors’ driveways as a kid so he could play on their basketball court in the dead of winter, Steve developed some incredible skills and a love for the game that he carried with him.

Steve loved sharing his interests with his three daughters, Brittany, Kami and Shelby, who’s earliest childhood memories include the sound of sneakers squeaking on a gym floor. As the girls grew older, Steve made every effort to influence their music preferences by hogging the radio “for their own good” and taking them to The Allman Brothers Band and Jimmy Buffett concerts, among others. His love of music is one of many things that he shared with his beloved wife and soul’s match, Paula (Minix) Herier.

Since meeting in 2013, Steve and Paula spent their summer months jamming at concerts like Jason Bonham, Lynard Skynard, and the Farm Aid festivals, their cooler months cheering on the Denver Broncos (Steve) and Indianapolis Colts (Paula), and all the days in between making each other laugh with their identical senses of humor.

In addition to being a loving father to his three daughters, Brittany Herier (Matthew Mastrangelo), Kami Herier, and Shelby Borgmann (Mitch Borgmann), and stepchildren Brandon and Camy Boisvert, Steve was a proud Papa to Ryder Cardoso, and Dax and Huck Mastrangelo. Left with decades of laughs and memories are his brothers Brian and David Herier, sisters-in-law, Tara, and Heather Herier and 5 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, if you choose to honor his life, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held for family and close friends at his home in Pittsboro on Saturday, April 10, 2021 from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Steve’s outlook on life may be best summarized by a Jimmy Buffett favorite, “Some people never find it. Some only pretend. But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.” And boy did he ever.
