Shuh T. ("Shawna") Wang-Su of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2021 at the age of 80.
Ms. Wang-Su was the 4th of 6 siblings, born and raised in Taiwan. After studying biology in college in the city of Taipei she came to the US in August of 1968 to study biochemistry at the State University of NY at Stony Brook where she earned her Master's Degree. She soon married Jen An Su who also came from Taiwan to study in the Boston and then NJ area. Sadly, Mr. Su passed away in 1987 but she continued to raise her son in Warren Township, NJ. She moved to Chapel Hill in 2007 after retiring from her position in the Biochemistry Department at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ in Newark, NJ where she worked for over 25 yrs. During her retirement, she especially enjoyed watching operas, playing table tennis and attending gatherings at the local senior center, exercising at the Duke or UNC fitness centers and spending time with family.
She is survived by her son, Hansen Su, his wife, Sherryl Yu-Su, and her granddaughter, Leann Jane Su and resided with them up until her passing. She is also survived by her older sister, Shuang Yi Ting, her younger brother, Ming Jer Wang, her younger sister, Yueh Hwa Guo, and many nephews and nieces who still reside in Taiwan.
Ms. Wang-Su enjoyed all kinds of flowers and small plants which can be sent in her memory to Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory. Donations to charity, especially ones related to medical research, are also encouraged.
