Sharon Vernelle (Hearne) Griffin

Sharon Hearne Griffin, of Pittsboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at the age of 72.

Born on December 11, 1953, in Pittsboro, Sharon was a lifelong resident of the community she loved so deeply. She dedicated many years of her life to caring for others as a nurse in Pittsboro and Chapel Hill. Even after her retirement, Sharon continued to serve those around her, always offering compassion, comfort, and a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors.

Sharon had a special love for animals and was rarely without a beloved pet by her side. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she considered herself richly blessed. She was an active and devoted member of Chatham Church, where she participated in many activities and formed lasting friendships.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Lee Hearne and Blanche Hearne; her sister, Donna Hearne Teague; and her granddaughter, Basia Smith.

Sharon is survived by her loving children, Ashley Smith and Johnnie Lloyd (Lisa); her brother, Marlin Hearne (Faye); her nieces, Michelle, Melanie, Lisa, and Lori; her great-nephews, Tyler and Travis; her great-niece, Katie; her great-great-niece, Athena; her great-great-nephew, Kellin; and her cousins, Kathy, Michael, Jimmy, Sarah, and Lillian.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to her dear friend, Tracy Clegg, for her help, kindness, and friendship.

Sharon will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering faith, and the countless lives she touched through her care and compassion. Her legacy of love and service will live on in all who knew her.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 11AM at Chatham Untied Methodist Church.  Private burial will be held at a later date.  A reception will follow after the service.
