Sarah Jane (Sally) Jackson Corr died peacefully on December 17, 2024, after a brief illness.
Sally was born November 6, 1941, in Winston Salem, N.C., the middle child of Margaret and Robert Jackson. Sally often talked about her childhood in Mt. Airy with fond memories of town-wide birthday parties shared with her sister JoAnne and celebrated with a Halloween theme. She went fishing with her father and shopping in her Uncle Reid’s department store as well as her grandmother Mamie’s clothing shop. She was surrounded by family and friends and carried their devotion and love with her when she married Christopher (Chris) Corr on December 21, 1961. Chris preceded Sally in death on August 21, 2001.
Sally and Chris were married for forty years and raised two sons in Phoenix, Arizona. Chris ‘ primary career was in Television sales and Sally stayed with her family and involved herself with her boys and her volunteer activities. She busied herself with her children’s school activities and sports. She also volunteered for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Her spunk and determination helped her to become a major fund-raiser for them.
Sometime after Chris’s death, Sally worked in event planning and started coming back to North Caroline on a regular basis for her high school reunions, which allowed her to reconnect with close friends and family in the area. She eventually moved to North Carolina to live with her sister in Pittsboro.
Sally loved her family and friends. Being an out-going “introvert” (her description), she made the perfect hostess. Her quick wit and good humor put everyone at ease. She was an excellent cook and often said that her husband Chris loved everything and anything she made. When she moved back to NC she had a hard time – impossible really – cutting her recipes down to feed only her sister and herself. To be sure, though, no one ever left her table hungry or without leftovers!
Sally had the same passion for fashion as her grandmother Mamie Jackson and they both had decidedly impeccable taste. Shopping was one of her greatest joys and she was always perfectly dressed for any occasion. She wore her clothes beautifully.
Left to cherish Sally’s memory are her two sons, Christopher “Chris” Joseph Corr of Manhattan Beach, California and Robert “Rob” Edward Corr of New York City, New York; Chris’ wife Janice “JJ” Jinguji Corr and their two sons Cale Masaharu and Tanner Jinguji; sister JoAnne Robb of Pittsboro, North Carolina; niece Cathy Jackson of New Hope, Pennsylvania; nephew James “Jay” Robb and his wife Helen of China Grove, North Carolina; nephew Michael “Mike” Robb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and grandnephews Joseph “Joe” and David Robb, also both from China Grove, NC. .
Sally taught us to live in the moment, not to worry about things you have no control over, put our cares in God’s hand and be grateful for all of life’s bounty. She lived her life her way and her memory will always be in the hearts of those she loved. A celebration of Sally’s life will be April 5, 2025, at 2PM at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church, 95 East Street Pittsboro, NC 27312 and a reception will follow at Potterstone Village Clubhouse May Farm Road Pittsboro, NC 27312.
Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Corr Family.
