Sandra K LeGay, age 86, died Thursday, January 16, 2025, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC. She was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania on February 6, 1938 daughter of the late Charles Kenneth Kresge and Grace Marie Kresge (Gockley).
Sandra was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Irvin R LeGay III and leaves behind to cherish her memory; son, Jeffrey Scott LeGay, daughter-in-law, Janet Clark LeGay, daughter, Laura Christine Messenger, son-in-law, Jon Carleton Messenger; grandson, Douglas Scott LeGay and friend Caroline Day.
Sandra was a graduate of Penn State University and loved to spend fall Saturdays attending PSU football games in State College, PA as a long-time season ticket holder. Doing masters
work in education at Millersville University, Sandra spent her working years as a science and math teacher in the Cornwall-Lebanon School District. Sandra moved to North Carolina in
2000, where she continued to use her education experience as a volunteer at Pittsboro Elementary School.
Sandra was an accomplished artist specializing in wildlife and landscapes using oils, pencil, and pastels. She also excelled in wood carving of birds, fish, and Santa Claus. When she wasn’t using her special skills in the arts, Sandra enjoyed traveling with her husband and family across the globe; visiting many European, Mediterranean, North and Central American countries. Another passion of Sandra’s was going to Broadway shows in New York and local theater in Raleigh and Durham.
