Ruth Muller Obituary

She was born in Winston-Salem, NC on January 11, 1928. The daughter of late Eben Turner Rawls and Lillian Hawkins Rawls. Her deceased brothers were Eben T. Rawls Jr. (Mary Grace Maus) and Joseph B. Rawls (Cora Poplin). She was married to Kurt E. Muller December 29, 1949, in Centenary Methodist Church, Winston-Salem, NC.

Surviving sons are Kurt E. Muller Jr. (Hilde), Michael G. Muller (Becky), and Peter Muller (Carol). Deceased son Frederick R. Muller (Annette). Grandchildren are Nick, Sean, Grant, Samantha, and Chloe Muller. Step grandchildren are Frank and Michael Klaput. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and by those special loving and loved cousins Maggie Sauer, Karen, and Ryann Klein, who knew her as Mama Ruth.

A native of Winston-Salem, NC, she attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA. She graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 1949 (Women’s College UNC) with a degree in psychology.

She lived in various locations in the United States with the frequent company moves of her husband Kurt. Her primary concern during those years was the care of her family. The final move resulted in living over 14 years in Germany and Switzerland, returning to the U.S. in 1985 to retire. She lived in Morehead City, NC for 10 years. She was a member of the Surfside Garden Club and the Woman’s Club, and she arranged and conducted three special tours of Europe for friends and residents. She moved to Fearrington Village, Pittsboro, NC in 1995 and to Carolina Meadows in 2017.

Her special interests were volunteer and club work in the U.S. and overseas. She was active in obtaining college scholarships for students living overseas, and in the U.S. She served on the Board of Frankfurt (Germany) International School. She was a Board Member of the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas, a Board Member and Scholarship Chair of the FAWCO Foundation, and the Scholarship Chair of FAWCO Alumnae in the U.S. She compiled a booklet on the Language Expertise of students living overseas and attending international schools. She was a consultant to Swiss students who intended to study in U.S. colleges and universities. She was a bridge player and bridge instructor for many years and a tennis player for over 60 years.

She was a member of seven genealogical societies. She was a contributor of family artifacts to the NC Southern Collection, Wilson Library, UNC. She was an author of three family history books. Researching family history was her legacy.

 A private burial will take place at Quantico National Cemetery at the site of Marine Corps Veteran husband, Kurt.
