Ruth Ellen (Miller) Lucier

Ruth Ellen Miller Lucier, 80, of Pittsboro, NC, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020.

Ms. Lucier was born August 15, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA, to the late Vinita Ar and Clarence Miller.

Ruth Miller Lucier received her Ph.D. from University of Maryland in 1972 with a Major in Philosophy and a minor in Social Sciences. She taught at Northern Arizona University from 1967-1969 (as Assistant Professor) and was hired at the same rank by Bennett College in the Fall of 1972.

Her post doctorial education includes participation in an NEH Seminard with Dr. Huston Smith on the Great Chain of Being held at the Pacific School of Religion, participation in multiple Faculty Research Network seminars sponsored by New York University, and Advanced Graduate study on Love and Justice at the Duke Divinity School led by Dr. Stanley Haurwas.

Dr. Lucier was a Professor of Philosophy at Bennett College where she also served as Coordinator/Director of the Interdisciplinary Studies’ Traditional Option Program.

She was recently accepted as a Life Time Member of Marquis’s Who’s Who.
