Roy Anderson Jones

Roy Anderson Jones, age 87, died peacefully Monday, April 11, 2023, at SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan UNC Hospice House. He was born in Orange County, North Carolina to the late Millard Jones and Thelma Williams Jones. He was predeceased in death by his siblings, Clarence Jones, Clyde Jones, Raymond Jones, Bill Jones, Eddie Jones and Marie Zedaker.

Surviving Roy is his wife, Clarice Durham Jones of Pittsboro, NC, sons, Randy (Angela) Jones of Sneads Ferry, NC , Rusty (Tina) Jones of Pittsboro, NC, Ray Hackney of South Carolina, and daughter, Mona Hackney Thomas (Wesley) of Sanford, NC, four grandsons, four granddaughters, twelve great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a sister, Nancy (Robert) Dodd of Raleigh, NC.

Roy was born in Orange County, NC and grew up in Carrboro, NC.  After he married Clarice in February 1964 they moved to Bynum NC. Roy was an iron worker and he worked for Flour Daniels Contractors until he retired and then he went to work for the Chatham County Sheriff Department as a bailiff. He retired from there after 14 years.

Roy loved horseshoe pitching where he won multiple trophies.  He was an avid Tar Heel fan. He “did not like to lose!”  Roy always wanted to win- no matter what he was playing.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Bynum Baptist Church.
