Robert Wesley Sikes

Robert Wesley Sikes, 92, of New Hill, NC passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

He was born on April 14, 1933, in the community of Moulton in Franklin County, the son of Samuel Morgan Sikes and Erma Lee May Sikes.

He married the love of his life, Pearl Gray Mitchell, on December 6, 1952, in Chesterfield, SC. They were married for 60 years until her passing.

Mr. Sikes was a longtime member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He graduated from Bells High School in 1951, where he played outfield for the school baseball team and drove a school bus for two years.

Following graduation, he began working for CP&L Power Company. He later attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and went on to work for Steve Baucom Store in Apex. He retired in 1998 after a 40-year career as a technician with the Office of Information Technology at Duke University and Hospital. He also repaired radios and televisions on weekends.

Mr. Sikes enjoyed fishing, listening to old country music, and playing on a dart ball team with his church.

He is survived by his sons, Wayne Barry Sikes of New Hill, and Wallace Craig Sikes of Holly Springs; grandchildren, Jessica Carmen Sikes Williford and husband David Alan Williford of Calabash, and Melanie Dawn Sikes of Holly Springs; great-grandchildren, Benny Lofton Williford and wife Minh Thu Williford of Da Long, Vietnam, Lexus Jade Cook of Raleigh, Abigail Brooklyn Cook of Holly Springs, Nicky Salvator Sikes of Parkersburg, WV, and Bella Garcia Sikes of Holly Springs.

He is also survived by his brother, Curtis Garlin Sikes and wife Rose Mary Oakley Sikes of Durham; 13 nieces and nephews; and 4 living cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Morgan Sikes and Erma Lee May Sikes, and his brother, Walter Lee Sikes. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 17, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 724 Beaver Creek Rd., Apex. A funeral service will immediately follow from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
