Robert Lee Johnson, 77, of Pittsboro, North Carolina went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 23, 2023. Bob was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1946. He lived most of his life in Florida and gave his life to Christ at a young age. Bob attended public schools in Clearwater FL. After high school he attended the University of South Florida, and graduated Cum Laude with a BA degree in Mathematics.
He and Sharon were married in 1966, and have three children and sixteen grandchildren. Bob was employed for 40 years by Winn Dixie Stores Inc. He worked his way up from bag boy to the Director of Work Methods headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. Bob was a dedicated husband and father who lived out his faith for his family and others to witness and leaves a great legacy. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family doing hobbies such as canoeing and as his children aged, they have all continued to enjoy this activity. There is now a Johnson fleet to this testament as well as many assorted tales of adventures.
Bob was an active member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Jacksonville FL. Through the years at Evangel he, along with his wife, taught a couple different Sunday School classes as well as worked and traveled with the youth drama team both to outreaches and competitions. The Lord used Bob to encourage and impact the lives of many youth and young couples through the years. He was also a deacon and served as the church treasurer for several years. In 2019, he and Sharon moved to North Carolina with their daughter and her family, and then became a member of Covenant Life Church.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Carl O. and Lucille B. Johnson, and his beloved son-in-law Mark A. Cercy who was tragically killed in 2020 by a drunk driver. Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon P. Johnson and their three children, Robert Jr (Jennifer), Christopher (Lynn), and Cynthia Hoyle (Steven). Bob is also survived by sixteen grandchildren: Katie Beth (17), Eric (15), Jacob (13), Colton (11), Cora Grace (7), Isaac (2), Sierra (25), Daniel (19), Emily (16), Ava (11), Tessa (8), Micah (12), Annaliese (10), Briella (7), Lilabeth (5) and Nathan (10 months). Robert, or Bobby as he was known to his siblings, is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Carl R. (Faye), Jim (Gayle), Eric (Susan), Hazel Rademaker and a half-sister Rebecca “Becky” Fisher, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bob’s life and his homegoing will be celebrated on August 5th, 2023 at 12:00pm at the Chatham Community Church, 480 Hillsboro St #800, Pittsboro, NC 27312. Public viewing will precede the service and start at 11:00am. A brief graveside service will be held at Hanks Chapel Christian Church Cemetery immediately following the service.
