Ralph was born in Brooklyn, NY. He aspired to be a pro baseball player only to be stricken with polio at the age of 15. This did not handicap him in any way as he graduated from the University of Maryland, where he was the oldest living Maryland Alpha Phi Delt member, of which he was President along with his son, John, and son-in-law, A.J. Behrens. Ralph had a very successful career leading companies at AG Spalding, FNT Industries & RJ Sigler & Company. He always found time to be a spectator and coached his sons in many sports including football, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, diving, basketball, golf and baseball alongside his own passion for playing golf and hitting the beach.
Ralph and Dolores lived a country club lifestyle and were members at St. George Golf Course on Long Island; Elmcrest Country Club (CC) Massachusetts; Oneida CC, Wisconsin & Grosse Ile Golf & CC, Michigan. They enjoyed numerous family special occasions and holidays at the clubs as their sons grew up and started their families.
Ralph and Dolores were devout Catholics. A strength that they gave to their family. He never missed mass and communion. Ralph was in the first pew for many years at the early daily mass as his boys served as altar boys. He loved the holidays, especially Christmas and Easter, each filled with traditions that are beloved and continue in his sons’ families today. Family was first for Ralph, and until his last day, he always asked about each and every person in the family.
A service and burial will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 1PM at Christ Church, 3100 Broomes Island Rd., Pt. Republic, Maryland. Please consider making a contribution in Ralph’s name to The Rotary Foundation - Polio Plus Fund. You will be helping the worldwide challenge to eradicate polio.
