Phyllis Jean Eggers (87) passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at Galloway Ridge at Fearrington in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
Born on November 24, 1937, in Canton, Ohio, to Albert and Margaret Eldridge, Phyllis grew up in Canton and Elyria, Ohio, graduating from Elyria High School in 1955.
Phyllis began her professional journey as a chemical laboratory technician and medical secretary, but her true calling was music. For over six decades, she dedicated herself as an accomplished church organist, music director, and active member of the American Guild of Organists; where she shared her passion for music with a community that cherished her talent. Beyond the organ bench, Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.
She married Eugene Eggers in August of 1977. She is survived by her children: Timothy Baker and his wife Lynn, Daniel Baker and his wife Natalya, and Gail Quarberg and her husband Bradley. Her brother, Fred Eldridge, and his wife Cathleen, also survive her, along with grandchildren: Matthew Baker, Megan Baker, Michael Baker and his wife Kaitlyn, Nickolas Baker, Nicolas Quarberg and his wife Kristy, and Merideth Quarberg and her wife Rachel.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with arrangements handled by Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory in Pittsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Galloway Ridge of Fearrington Library Fund, the American Guild of Organists, or a charity close to your heart, honoring Phyllis’s spirit.
Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Eggers family.
