Penelope “Penny” Cooper Boone passed away at home in the early morning hours of Sunday June 14, 2026 after a prolonged illness. Her husband, Tony Boone, and sons Tony Michael and Jesse, faithfully cared for her during all the many hospital stays and, during the last several months, total bed confinement.
Penny was raised in Pittsboro. She and Tony lived in Virginia Beach after their marriage, before coming back to Pittsboro and then moving to Blowing Rock where they bought a mountain cabin resort, Boone Country Cabins. After several years they moved to the Murrell’s Inlet area and settled at Surfside Beach where they raised their family.
Penny loved life! Cooking was her passion. She enjoyed going to concerts and was known to play some of her favorite songs over and over and over including the music of Elvis, Tom Jones and Prince. Purple Rain was her favorite song and purple was her favorite color.
Penny is survived by her husband Tony Boone, sons Tony Michael and Jesse, granddaughter Penelope “Little Penny”, brother-in-law Dennis Boone, sister-in-law Rhonda Boone Poe (Mike Poe), Sister-in-law Linda Cooper, and brother-in-law Ray Bouldin, stepsons Mitchell and Michael Boone, her beloved dog Bella and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Ken & Wynell Cooper, sister Jenny Cooper Bouldin and brother Kent Cooper.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11am Thursday, June 18th at Bynum UMC Cemetery with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.
Donaldson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Boone Family.
