Pauline Carol (Martin) Gillis

Pauline Martin Gillis passed away peacefully at UNC Hospice in Pittsboro on Friday, May 15. She was born May 28, 1927 in Prospect Park, PA and is a 1949 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she met her husband of 60 years.      

Pauline resided in Pompton Plains, NJ until 1987 when she her husband Charles Gillis retired to Ocean City, NJ. In 2005 Polly and Chuck moved to Galloway Ridge in Pittsboro, NC., where they were members of St. Julia Catholic Church in Siler City, NC.         

She is the mother of five, grandmother to nine, and great grandmother of ten.        

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A Gillis, and her son, William James Gillis and is succeeded by her children Charles Gillis of Pittsboro, NC and his wife, Jennifer; daughter Martha Gillis Crawley of Jacksonville, NC; daughter Nancy Gillis Faulstick of Nazareth, PA; and Susan Gillis Vogel and her husband Scott, of Bentonville, AR.  

Her grandchildren are Leah Alexandra Gillis of Pittsboro, NC; Lane Charles Gillis of Glendale, CA; Jennifer Lynn Mitchley of Round Hill, VA; Rebecca Lynn Crawley of Goldsboro, NC; Katherine Ann Miller of Schwanksville, PA; Lt. Maxwell Allen Crawley, USN; William Scott Wesley of Media, PA; Ted James Faulstick of Philadelphia, PA; and Daniel Thomas Vogel of Bentonville, AR.           

She is fondly remembered by great grandchildren Abernathy and Matilda Gillis of Glendale, CA; Cameron, Grace, and William Mitchley of Round Hill, VA;  Patrick and Reagan Miller of Schwanksville, PA; Hannah and Thomas Wesley of Media, PA; and Gabriel Crawley of Manila, Phillipines.

Pauline was an enthusiastic and talented cook, singer, sewist, and water colorist. She loved a good joke and had an infectious laugh. Her Christmas cookies were a community institution.
