Michele Wilson-Tammeling, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away on March 19, 2026, just shy of her 59th birthday. Born in Stoughton, MA, raised in Wilmington NC, Michele carried her New England roots with her—along with a sharp wit, a generous spirit, and a quiet determination that showed up in everything she did.
She was preceded in death by her father Don Wilson and leaves behind her devoted husband, Hans Tammeling; her mother, Wanda Evans Bell, and stepfather, Lawrence Bell, of Wilmington, NC; her sisters, Karen Wilson Guyer (Jon) of Maryland and Cynthia Wilson Cavileer of Hillsborough; her nephew, Donovan Cavileer; many cousins; her loyal support dog, Ivy; and Theo the cat.
Michele graduated from Hoggard High School, in 1985 and went on to earn her degree from the UNC School of Pharmacy in 1991. She built a successful career at GlaxoSmithKline, where she was known for her intelligence, professionalism, no nonsense attitude and her ability to get things done. She also established herself as an independent contractor for many years
Following her professional career, she turned a passion into something meaningful by opening Blue Sky Equestrian in Pittsboro. Michele was a passionate advocate for head protection and head safety and her M.O. was exceptional customer service and connecting with the community. It was also there that she met Hans, the love of her life and soulmate, who was devoted to her in every way
She served on the Personnel Committee of her church and was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where she took on a leadership role in helping others. Michele loved caring for her animals (in particular her handicapped husky dog, Ivy ), valued simple moments, and had a way of making people feel comfortable just by being herself. Throughout the years, while battling with mental health, her loving nature, sense of humor, and mischievous spirit endeared her to everyone she met. She was not about grand gestures, but about doing things well and leaving places a little better than she found them. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
