Melvin Urbane (Jr) Harmon

Melvin Urbane Harmon, Jr, age 80, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home on Friday, March 21, 2025. He was born to the late Melvin Urbane Harmon, Sr and Mildred Quesenberry Harmon in Eden, North Carolina on June 22, 1944. 

He attended Appalachian State and the served in the Army in the Vietnam War for two years.  He and his wife, Donna, met in Eden and they were married for 58 wonderful years.  They raised three children; each child was born in a different town as they moved around due to his job.  He was self-employed and then worked for the State of North Carolina as an Industrial Human Relations Consultant. 

The things that brought him joy were first his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family especially the grandchildren, his work in the church in the music department, dramas, being a deacon, chair of the personnel committee and while his grandkids were in the nursery, he worked there.  He coached community football for years.   Everyone who knew him loved him and his smile.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Millie Morrison and brother Michael Harmon.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Meeks Harmon, Dana Staninas of Sanford, Tripp Harmon (Amy) of Pittsboro, Miles Harmon of Zebulon, grandchildren, Karlie Wiggins, Grayson Harmon, Isaac Harmon, Hailey Harmon and Logan Harmon.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:00AM at Pittsboro Baptist Church 121 W Salisbury Street Pittsboro, NC with Reverend Peter McDonald presiding and a visitation will follow in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made in his memory to Pittsboro Baptist Church, 121 W Salisbury Street Pittsboro, NC 27312 or Shepards Baptist Church, 80 Pressly Foushee Road Sanford, NC 27330.
