Marcel A. Vachon Jr., 81, a resident of Pittsboro, NC, passed away suddenly on August 18, 2024.
Born on December 31, 1942, in Manchester, NH, Marcel was the son of Marcel Vachon, Sr. and Rose Vachon. He grew up in Manchester, attending local schools before proudly serving in the ARMY/NH National Guard from 1960 to 1966.
While residing in Merrimack, NH with his family, Marcel began working for Granite State Packing Company (Jac-Pac) where he stayed until 1980. His journey then took him to the sunny shores of Daytona Beach, Florida, where he worked as a wholesale food distributor for several years. However, New Hampshire called him back, leading him to a fulfilling career with Hannaford Bros. In 1995, Marcel relocated to North Carolina with Hannaford, later transitioning to Harris Teeter, where he worked until his retirement in 2010.
In his younger years, Marcel was the life of every gathering, known for grilling the best steaks at cookouts. He cherished time spent at the beach, soaking up the sun, and enjoying the beauty of New Hampshire's lakes and mountains with his family and friends. Winters were filled with adventures, snowmobiling across New Hampshire and Maine with his loved ones. In his later years, Marcel found peace in the simple pleasures of life—sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee, watching and listening to the birds, and feeding the local wildlife.
Marcel is survived by his three children, Michelle Collerette, and her spouse, Craig Collerette, of Pittsboro, NC; Gary Marcel Vachon of Bennington, NH; Lynn Peters, and her spouse, Jeffrey Peters, of Redondo Beach, CA; his beloved grandchildren, Justin Collerette of PA and Randi Lyn Collerette of NC; his former wife and dear friend, Nola Thompson (York) of Palm Springs, CA, and his sister, Claire Robertson of Manchester, NH, along with many nieces and nephews. Marcel was preceded in death by his parents, Marcel Sr., his mother Rose, his brother Francis, and his sister, Anne.
No services are planned as this time.
