Jonathan D. Knapp, 48, died February 5, 2026 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Jonathan was the oldest son of David and Gail Knapp of Fort Mill, South Carolina, where Jonathan spent his childhood.
During high school, Jonathan discovered a love of cooking and all things food. This led him to Johnson and Wales University in Charleston, South Carolina, where he earned his degree in Culinary Arts.
After earning his degree from Johnson and Wells University, Jonathan went on to build a devoted career as a chef working in several well loved restaurants throughout Charleston and spending a brief period honing his craft in Minneapolis Minnesota. During this time he became a member of the South Carolina State Guard and the Royal Lao Airborne. These organization helped to shape Jonathan into the phenomenal individual he was known to be.
After meeting his wife, Meghan, he relocated to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and finally, most recently to Chatham County, where he continued to grow his talents in the kitchen and developed a love for his community that was felt by all who he came in contact with. Jonathan's love of food, feeding and sharing with people was only matched by his love of his wife, family, friends, and especially his faithful and spoiled dogs. Jonathan love to travel, especially to the beach or mountains and enjoyed sharing experiences and stories with those he cared about.
Jonathan is survived by his wife, Meghan, his parents, Gail and David, his brother Jason (Anna), and a loving extended family and numerous friends. Jonathan's family would like to thank the dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and support staff at Forsyth Medical Center's Neuro ICU for the Care they provided Jonathan.
A celebration of Jonathan's life will be held Sunday, April 12 at 2 PM at Forest Hall in Pittsboro.
