Jacqueline McGrath Obituary

Jacqueline “Jackie” McGrath, 83, of Pittsboro, NC peacefully went to live with the Lord on January 19, 2023. Born on March 1, 1939, to Daniel Soldo and Kathleen (Caffrey) Soldo, Jackie grew up in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Oceanside High School.

Jackie graduated from Hofstra College, where she met her future husband, Jim McGrath, whom she married in 1959, and together they raised four children. As well as being a talented gardener, Jackie had a great passion for travel, classical music, art, and literature. Most of all, she treasured the joy of love and laughter with family and friends. She is remembered for her quick wit, her warm heart, and for offering a helping hand to anyone in need.

As office manager for St. Elizabeth Catholic University Parish in Lubbock, TX, Jackie kept the operations of the busy parish running smoothly for sixteen years and touched the lives of many parishioners and clergy alike. After retiring, Jackie and Jim moved to North Carolina, where they continued to enrich their lives with extensive travel and by enjoying their friends and family. Jackie also volunteered her time to the Learning Disabilities Association and to the Hospice program.

A beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Jackie leaves behind her husband of 64 years, James Joseph McGrath and her children Barbara (William) Moore, James (Kanchaphon) McGrath, Kathleen (Walter) Reiss, and Michael (Jodi) McGrath; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her siblings Kathleen Pierce and Daniel (Jean) Soldo.

A Celebration of Jackie’s Life will take place from 10 am to 12 pm on Monday, January 30 in the Galloway Ridge Auditorium, 3000 Galloway Ridge Drive, Pittsboro, NC.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, January 31 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael Street, Chapel Hill, NC.
