H. Allen Manning Obituary

H. Allen "Al" Manning, 87 died peacefully on March 26, 2023 at SECU Bryan Family Hospice of UNC Health Care.  He was born in Frederick, Oklahoma in 1935 to Thomas and Etoile (Hoyle) Manning. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University and the University of Arkansas. Al served as a Naval Supply Corps Officer for over 20 years, including service as a military advisor (MAAG) in South Vietnam and in Taiwan, and on the U.S.S. Richard S. Edwards.  After his naval service, he taught computer science at Haywood Community College in Clyde, North Carolina, and later lived in Pittsboro, NC.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol (Parr) Manning of Chapel Hill, NC and their two daughters, Jennifer Manning (husband, Chris Carroll) of Columbia, MD and Melinda Manning (husband, Richard Kwok) of Carrboro, NC, and his grandson, Alexander Manning Kwok. He is also survived by his brother, Doug Manning of Oklahoma City, and was predeceased by his brother, Tom Manning. 

Al was a Master Mason and member of the Columbus Lodge in Pittsboro. He was a past member of Waynesville First United Methodist Church. He was active in the North Carolina Writers Network, Folkmoot USA, Wilderness Trail, and the Haywood County Art Council. Al loved writing, hiking, fishing, piano playing, and taking part in Haywood Arts Regional Theater productions. No services are planned at the time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Haywood Community College Foundation (Al Manning Memorial Scholarship), North Carolina Writers Network, Haywood Arts Regional Theater, or Wilderness Trail Backpacking Ministry.  Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Manning Family, tributes can be left at www.Donaldsonfunerals.com.
