Gerard Dennis Crotty, born on March 13, 1953 to Helen and Tom in Brooklyn, New York, died at his home of natural causes in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on August 13, 2023. Known to all his friends and family as Gerry, he and his wife Christine Crotty (née Cooney) met as teenagers and were married in the early ‘70s. Chris and Gerry were together (and quite inseparable) until her death after a long battle with cancer, way too soon, in 2004. Gerry made his career working at Maher Terminals in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Starting in a lower level position in the company, his notable talent, leadership, and hard work eventually led him to a Senior Vice President position in charge of operations. Gerry retired from Maher Terminals several years ago and moved from New Jersey to North Carolina, where he could be close to his brother, Tom, and live the good life. Gerry had a tremendous affection for music and art and an impeccable eye for design. He was generous, funny, and so much fun to be around. Board games, cards, trivia, casinos - he liked to win, but really just loved to play. Whip smart and very well read, there was not a topic he could not discuss intelligently. He was a very beloved uncle (and great uncle) to his nieces Kasey Willoughby (husband CJ, children Jake and Carter), Jennifer Wojton (husband Chris, children Thomas and Layla), and Joy Carney (husband Carlos, children Nicolas and Roman Gerard), and nephew William Carney (wife Danielle, daughter Marisa), all of whom survive him. Gerry is also survived by his brothers Tom Crotty (wife Denise) and James Crotty (wife Linda, daughter Kaitlin). Gerry will be greatly missed by all his friends and family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the charities listed below. Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory are honored to serve the Crotty family.
