George Edward (Ned) Hart, Jr., 74 years old, went home to be with the Lord on December 26, 2025. He died at his home with his family.
Ned was born on January 23, 1951 to Jacqueline Michie Hart and George Edward (Big Ned) Hart, Sr. He and his sister, Becky, and their parents built their lives in Goldsboro, NC. He attended Goldsboro High School where he played football and was as a proud member of the graduating class of 1969, all of which generated some of his favorite stories to share. He attended NC State University and was proud to be a Wolfpack.
In 1974 Ned married the love of his life, Rita. Together they had two children, of which he loved more than life itself, Jennifer and Brandon. Ned had a very successful career in commercial construction and worked with T.A. Loving Company the majority of his professional career. In every role, he was well respected by his colleagues and as VP, he managed the Building Division with integrity and respect.
Ned will forever be remembered as a quiet man with a big presence. His big, unconditional love, encouragement and affirmations fueled his family in all things. Ned’s priority was always his family. From a young age he took care of both his parents. One consistent message that runs through every family member is that Ned was there for them. He was reliable, steady, and strong. The rock for us all.
Ned’s greatest joys in life were his five grandchildren. He specifically bought a paper calendar to document all their sporting events. He never missed a game. Ned’s proudest moments were watching his family live their lives in a way that honored the Lord and the values he instilled in us.
Ned is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rita, daughter Jennifer Cashion (husband Matt), son Brandon (wife Lindsey), and five grandchildren, Connor Cashion, Caroline Cashion, Grey Hart, Aubrie Hart, and Carson Cashion. He is also survived by his sister, Becky Hart.
A celebration of life will be held at Pittsboro Baptist Church (121 W. Salisbury St, Pittsboro, NC 27312) on Friday, January 2nd at 11:00am. The family will receive friends at the Cashion’s home (97 Ellis Creek Drive, Pittsboro, NC 27312) immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Haw River Christian Academy Capital Campaign (2428 Silk Hope Gum Spring Rd, Pittsboro, NC 27312).
Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the Hart Family.
