Gary Richard Derck

Gary Richard Derck, age 74, died early Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at his home, after a twenty-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born on January 16, 1950, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Charles Richard Derck and Helen Hessenberger Derck.

Gary is survived by his wife, Amy Derck, son, Matthew Derck (Jenette) of Colorado, daughter, Melanie Jacobs (Jim) of Sanford, NC, stepsons, Robert Ward of California, Matthew Ward (Aimee) of North Carolina, grandchildren, Oliver, Grant and Clara Jacobs, Saryn and Charlotte Ward, one sister, Rene Fobean (Don) of Ohio, and nieces, Katie Fobean and Samantha Fobean.

After graduating from Archbishop Hoban High School, Akron, Ohio, he served in the US Navy 1968 to 1972 as a Communication Electrician. Following his military service, Gary applied his technical knowledge, diligent work ethic, and interpersonal skills in a technical sales career. Gary loved meeting people and his career in sales brought him much joy. When his battle with Multiple Myeloma forced him to refocus his life, he became a cancer warrior dedicating his talents to provide hope, encouragement, laughter, and compassion to others suffering illness.
