Garlon Eugene Hackney

Garlon “Petey” Eugene Hackney, age 70, of Bynum, NC, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Petey worked in construction his entire life, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. He loved Carolina Tar Heels sports, racing, golfing, and attending PT Cruiser shows. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family and especially enjoyed traveling with his loving wife, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Debbie Little Hackney of the home; his children, Troy Hackney and Jennifer of Rougemont, NC; Tony Hackney and Tina of Liberty, NC; and Tara Hackney and Shane of Graham, NC; his grandchildren, Brooke Hackney, Lily Hackney, Griffin Gagner, Austin Gordon, and Riley Gordon; and his sisters, Lois “Bunny” Murray and Frank of Moncure, NC, and Becky Dahl and Michael of Snow Camp, NC.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tommie Hackney; his mother, Lois Thompson Hackney; and his brothers, Thomas “Doody” Hackney and his wife Joyce, Gary Dean Hackney, and Michael Owen Hackney.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 17th, at Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory in Pittsboro, with Pastor Wesley Thomas officiating.  The family will receive family and friends from 10:00–11:00 a.m., with the service immediately following. A graveside service will be held immediately following the funeral at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3650 Bethany Church Road, Franklinville, NC 27248.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Liberty Hospice.
