Floyd Stoneman Earhart, Jr

Floyd Stoneman Earhart, Jr. age 76, died at the VA Hospital in Durham, NC Heros Way unit on Sunday, May 4, 2025. He was born on February 18, 1949, in Newport News, Virginia to the late Floyd Stoneman Earhart, Sr and Marguerite Meadows Terrell.

He was a patriot above all; loved talking about politics. Growing a vegetable garden, saltwater fishing, and being a history buff. He loved reading anything, even bottles in a restaurant, aeronautics, talking about what the weather was going to be and was a big fan of NASCAR. Floyd loved to learn about “things!”  His youngest son retired from the military and his father loved talking and chatting with his buddies, telling big tales. Floyd also served in the Navy for six years.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Margaret McEvoy Earhart, sons, Joshua Earhart of Mebane, NC and Jason Earhart (Laura) of Pittsburgh, PA who also served for eight years in the Navy, brothers, Bill Earhart (Sue) of Pittsboro, Bobby Earhart (Nancy) of Haw River, David Jarrell of Pittsboro and a sister, Cheryle Pope (Michael) of Durham, grandson Joseph Earhart and granddaughter, Shylah Earhart both of Mebane.

A memorial service will be held at Clover Garden United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 2PM with Rev. Heather Locklear presiding and military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis. TN 38105.
