Eugene Gaskins, Jr Obituary

Eugene Brooks Gaskins, Jr., age 68, passed away in Chatham County, NC December 6, 2024. Gene was born in Wilmington, NC on March 28, 1956. His parents were the late Rev. Eugene and Virginia Gaskins. He grew up in Bladen County, NC graduating from Bladenboro High School in 1974. He attended NC State University and Campbell University where he graduated in 1978 with honors receiving a BA in Sociology and minor in Psychology. Gene went on to a long and distinguished career with the Raleigh, NC Police Department, serving in various roles primarily with the elite Selective Enforcement Unit. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA training program for law enforcement executives. He also attended the AOMP School at NC State University. Gene taught firearms training, defensive tactics, and high-risk police tactics. He retired in 2005 with the rank of Captain. He was proud of his service and the many brave
officers he served with and trained over his career.


In September 1987, he married the love of his life, Taylor Fish, from Fuquay Varina, NC. Gene and Taylor had three beautiful daughters, Sydney, Summer and Savannah. An avid outdoorsman and animal lover, Gene and his family had a farm with a menagerie of animals including horses, goats, and chickens. He was an accomplished Cowboy, winning several awards showing Cutting horses. He was a Godly Christian man and he and his family were active members of Emmaus Baptist Church.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Taylor and daughters, Sydney Morsch (Ryan)of Bear Creek, NC; Summer Ceparano (Matthew) of Southport, NC; Savannah Gaskins of Bolivia, NC. brother, Stephen Gaskins (Karen) of Wilmington, NC, grandchildren Cohen and Eva Morsch, Jameson Ceparano. Nephew, Charles Gaskins (Sullivan) of Wilmington, NC and their children, Liza Jane and Dustin Gaskins.
His extended family whom he loved very much include Tammy Adcock (Jay); Ben Fish (Maye); Helen Spivey (Glenn); James Adcock (Jennifer) and children Charlotte and Stewart; Jacquelyn Lane (Todd); Adam Fish (Kaitlin); Addison Fish and her son, Mason Holland; Diana Nieto Bevan (Bradley); Gerardo Nieto; Sandra Nieto.

There will be a private graveside service. At a later date there will be a Celebration of Life in his honor.
