Ethan Douglas Long, age 52, passed away unexpectedly in a tragic accident at his home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on April 11th, 2026. He was born on April 26th, 1973 in Allen County, Indiana.
A skilled electrician, Ethan took pride in his craft and was known for his meticulous work and his willingness to help anyone in need. Outside of his profession, he poured his heart into the things he loved most — hosting local bands on the backyard stage he built himself, camping at Linville Gorge, and sharing his passion for music and nature with friends and family. His home was a place of laughter, song, and connection.
Ethan is survived by his daughter, Leanna Long; his parents Lynn Douglas Long and Donna Lee Long; and his four siblings - Lance (Jenny) Long , Randall Long, Melissa (Vince) Smith, and Lorne (Marianne) Long, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held at Dockside Restaurant at 3:30 pm on April 23th, followed by a no-host reception. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Linville Gorge Trail Rehabilitation Project.
Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the Long family.
