It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Ernest Keith Roberts, a man of unwavering strength, generosity, and character. After being diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma following a seizure in November 2023, Keith faced his illness with remarkable courage and determination. On May 25, 2026, he passed peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Keith lived a full and extraordinary 68 years, dedicating his life to helping others through his wisdom, humor, and steadfast spirit. For 40 of those years, he shared a devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Kay.
A passionate and curious man, Keith found joy in many pursuits. He loved music—especially bluegrass on Sunday mornings—as well as carpentry, painting, history, and, above all, spending time with his family. Industrious and dependable, he could always be counted on to lend a hand, tackle a project, or share his knowledge with those around him. Though he occasionally misplaced a tool or two, he took immense pride in every project he completed and every piece of work that bore his name.
Keith spent 38 years as a Machinist and Drafter/Designer with Sumitomo Electric, where he earned a reputation for exceptional skill, efficiency, and craftsmanship. Many coworkers affectionately knew him as “The Professor,” a nickname inspired by the thoughtful stare he would cast over the bridge of his glasses. Others knew him by the nicknames Flea, Hazel, and Wildman, each reflecting the many facets of his larger-than-life personality.
Beyond his career, Keith was a founding member of the Cedar Fork Rifles Chapter, Camp 1827, in the Sons of Confederate Veterans, where he remained an active participant for more than 26 years.
Keith will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious laughter, expressive faces, and generous heart. He had a unique gift for making people smile and a steadfast devotion to the family and friends he loved. His life stands as a testament to perseverance, curiosity, resilience, and the enduring power of a joyful spirit. Those fortunate enough to know him will forever carry memories of his humor, wisdom, and even his unforgettable Tarzan yell.
Keith is survived by his loving wife, Kay Roberts; his son, Ernest Austin Roberts; his daughter, Rachel Harrison; his son in law, Owen Harrison; his father, Ernest Felton Roberts; and his sister, Theresa Freeman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rachel Wall Roberts.
A memorial service celebrating Keith's life will be held on June 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Berea Baptist Church. All who knew and loved him are invited to attend and share in honoring his memory. Interment will follow at Martha's Chapel Christian Church.
