Dr. Donald Floyd Semler, affectionately known as Don, Dad and Gramps, was born on September 27, 1950 to Carl Louis Semler and Anna Mary Semler in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Carl moved his family to North Shore, Texas when Don was a young boy. Don was able to travel the world as he served his country in the US Army for 21 years. He served as an optometrist and ultimately achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring. After the Army, Dr. Semler continued working as an optometrist. A job that he enjoyed immensely - except for “the computer stuff”. He loved being a husband, a father, a grandfather, a friend, and a golfer. He never met a stranger, and would give you his last dime if you were in need. Also, you couldn’t miss his loud and infectious laugh at any family gathering.
Dr. Semler unexpectedly passed away on August 6, 2023 at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, Betty of San Antonio, Texas, as well as his children and their families: Bobby - Devon, and Jordan Semler of Holly Springs, NC; Sonoma - Toddo, Chloe, and AJ Taylor of Denton Texas; Samuel and Hayden Allega of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by 4 of his 6 siblings: Robert, Jo Anne, Nancy, and Ann Semler.
He will be missed dearly; we love you, Gramps.
Dr. Semler requested a small family gathering and will be placed in his final resting place on August 18th at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. with military honors.
