Doris Margaret (Hill) Tackett

Doris Hill Tackett, 78, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 28, 1947, in Durham, she lived a life defined by strength and an unwavering dedication to those she loved most.

Doris was the heart of her family — a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She revolved around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was more than a house — it was a refuge, a gathering place, and a source of love and comfort for all who entered.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edgar Ray Tackett, with whom she shared 28 loving years. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Olivia Manning, Diana Parks, and Dorothy “Dot” Hill.

Doris is survived by her six children: Christopher Knight, Kayla Clark, Jimmy Knight, Lori Amos, Tonya Frazier, and Patricia Tackett. She was the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She also leaves behind her two brothers, Gene Hill and Glen Hill.

A family visitation will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Donaldson's Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with graveside services to follow.

Doris Hill Tackett will always be remembered for her steady presence and the love she gave so freely. Her family will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
