David Clarence Oakley

David Clarence Oakley, age 51, died Wednesday, September 28th at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill surrounded by his family. He was born to Clarence and Ann Hatley Oakley in Durham County, NC.  David graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1989.  He learned to lay beautiful hardwood floors from his grandfather Leo Hatley, which led him to starting his own business of Oakley Hardwood Floors.  David loved both of his boys and he was not only teaching them the family business of hardwood floors but also farming.  He was known for his farming of pumpkins, strawberries, corn, and tomatoes and then selling the produce at his mother’s stand.  David was a hard worker but also loved spending time outdoors where he was an avid hunter of deer, dove, rabbit, turkey, and squirrels.  He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.  David is preceded in death by his father Clarence Oakley, his sister Lollie Elizabeth ”Beth” Oakley and his infant son Timothy Heath Oakley.  David is survived by his wife of nearly 26 years, Tonya Heath Oakley, his sons Christopher and Daniel, and his mother, Ann Hatley Oakley of Chapel Hill NC.   Services will be held Sunday, October 2nd with a visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Barrett Freeman officiating.
