David Lindeman Obituary

David Colman Lindeman, age 78, peacefully passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022 at his Fearrington Village home in Pittsboro, NC. Originally from California, David was born July 23,1944, son to the late Philip Ferdinand Lindeman and Anna Louise Brady. David Lindeman had served in the Directorate for Financial and Fiscal Affairs at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the unit that staffs the Insurance Committee and the Working Group on Private Pensions. He was a Senior Pension Specialist at the World Bank from 1995 to 2001, where he worked on pension reform projects in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Croatia, and Kazakhstan. Prior to 1995, David had a twenty-five-year career as a federal civil servant. His civil servant career included serving as the Executive Director of the 1994-1996 Social Security Advisory Council (through 1995), the Head of the Policy and Research Office of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (GBGC) from late 1988 through early 1994, and a Senior Tax Analyst and Acting General Counsel for the Congressional Budget Office in the mid-1980s. Prior to that, he held various policy analysis positions in the Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Economic Opportunity. David served as co-chair of the Academy's Seventh Annual Conference, ''Social Security: What Role for the Future,'' in 1995. A founding member of the National Academy of Social Insurance, David received his A.B. and J.D. degrees from Columbia University and had completed the tax law sequence at Georgetown University.
David possessed a brilliant mind and intellect.  He was a voracious reader who enjoyed weeknight gatherings with neighbors, friends, and colleagues to discuss local, current, and other worldly affairs. David enjoyed scholarly pursuits that included global travel, lifelong fondness for oriental art and pottery, and Ancient Greek and Roman architecture.
Survivors include his brother, Philip Douglas Lindeman (and wife Rosemary), Murfreesboro, TN; nephew, Philip A. Lindeman, nieces, Susan Biggs, Genevieve Carlson, and Amy Lucas.
