In loving Memory of Christiana Frieda Herndon

Christiana Frieda Herndon, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully Saturday October 26, 2024. Originally from the picturesque land of Switzerland, Christiana carried with her the grace, timeliness and wit of her homeland. Christiana is survived by her devoted husband, John Rufus Herndon, and her beloved children: Yan Christian Frederick Hassell and his wife Regina Marie Hassell and Jara Christiana Katharina Herndon and her husband Christopher Ryan Howard. She was predeceased by her son, Aric Thomas Walter Herndon.

Christiana filled her life with humor, arts and crafts and an immense love for all living creatures. Her compassion extended beyond her family and friends; she was often spending her time caring for her friends in need and many a lost soul over the years. At home, she was surrounded by the animals she adored – goats, horses, emus, pigs, possums, raccoons, deer, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, dogs, cats, mice, rats, donkeys, mules, sheep, even a water buffalo at one time and anything else that needed a home. Each creature under her care knew the gentle touch of her kindness and the depth of her love.

Christiana did not shy away from adventures, from leaving Switzerland to apprentice dentistry in London to flying a Cessna over Guam, skydiving, scuba-diving and hiking many a mountain in her day. Her story brought her to North Carolina where she found love and built a home on the farm with her family.

Christiana was also an artist, and her creativity knew no bounds. Through her daily creations whatever they may have been, from goat milk soap, sculpture, sewing, gingerbread houses, heart art and naughty cookies, she expressed the beauty of her humor and creative mind.

Her legacy of kindness, humor, and artistic spirit will live on in the lives she touched and in the memories we hold dear. We will miss her dearly. Please join us at 2621 NC 87 N, Pittsboro, NC 27312, Saturday November 2, 2024, from 1 PM to 4 PM to celebrate her life.
