Chad Sexton Obituary

Chad Eric Sexton, age 53, of Pittsboro, died Saturday, November 1, 2025, at home. Chad was born in Orange County, North Carolina on May 30, 1972, to the late Lonnie Sexton, Jr. and Sandra Lawson Sexton, of Pittsboro. He is survived by his sister, Yvonne Sexton Goldston and her husband Anthony Goldston, of Siler City, his nephew Terrell Goldston and wife Lendy, nephew Dillon Goldston, great-nieces Faith and Nova Goldston, great-nephew Camryn Bland, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Trevor Eno, and the family’s beloved dog Smokey (Smoke Dog). Chad leaves behind many extended family and friends who are stunned by this sudden and tragic loss.

Chad was a graduate of Northwood High School in 1990, and faithfully served the public for decades as a Control Room Operator and Firefighter in Cary/Raleigh NC for PSNC and Dominion Energy (now Enbridge). He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Chad especially loved to play with his ‘big-boy toys’ including his custom mud racer “Lacking Sanity” that he regularly drove and placed in competitions across the country including his Unlimited Fastest of the Fast trophy at the Lee County Mud Motorsports Complex in Sanford, NC. Chad also loved to go four-wheeling with his West Virginia crew, Big Dog Racing events, golfing, hunting, and clowning around with friends everywhere he went. Chad never met a stranger and was always the life of the party and looking for ways to lift the spirits of everyone around him with his one-of-a-kind sense of humor and playful mischief. He was also a generous person with his time, talents, gifts and service to so many in our community and wherever he encountered them.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory Griffin Chapel in Pittsboro, NC with Dr. Wesley Thomas presiding. Burial will follow the funeral service at the cemetery of Merritt’s Chapel (1090 Farrington Pt. Rd, Chapel Hill, NC).

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in Chad’s memory to UNC Hospice P.O. Box 1077 Pittsboro, NC 27312.
