Carl Eugene Moushon, 83, of Pittsboro, NC, passed away on November 27, 2024. Born on October 19, 1941, in Peoria, IL, Carl was the son of the late Hazel Winkler Moushon and Lyle Moushon. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Doris Arnett.
Carl was a man of quiet strength and a generous heart. A Senior Systems Analyst by trade, he later became a respected business owner in the sheet metal machinery industry. Through his professional life, he exemplified dedication and integrity, leaving a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond his career, Carl was deeply committed to his community and his family. He was known for his calm demeanor and selflessness, always ready to lend a helping hand. Those fortunate enough to know him admired his ability to approach life with kindness and thoughtfulness.
In high school, he was a talented musician, playing both the coronet and French horn in the school band. On the field, he served as quarterback for the Carrollton High School football team. Beyond academics and sports, he was an active member of the Methodist Youth Group.
Carl was a very active church member throughout his life. He was a church elder and deacon. Taking on many leadership roles in administration, facilities, budget, building and discipleship. He trained and served as a Stephen’s minister, providing one-to-one care to men in prison. He enjoyed many mission trips with his church going to Tanzania, Sudan, and Kenya in Africa plus Paraguay, South America. One memorable mission trip with their pastor took the group to Africa, where they helped build a school. The children they served had little, with some sleeping on dirt floors, either sharing a single blanket or having none at all. Moved by the experience, Carl and Susan took it upon themselves to fund the installation of electricity at the school, leaving a lasting impact on the community. His legacy of compassion and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Carl and Susan valued their relationship with their grandchildren deeply and sought to create lasting memories with each of them. As a graduation present, they took their grandson to Africa, revisiting a place that held special meaning to them. For their granddaughters, they planned equally remarkable trips to China and Turkey, immersing them in diverse cultures and histories. These journeys weren’t just gifts—they were opportunities for Carl and Susan to bond with their grandchildren while broadening their horizons and instilling a sense of global perspective.
Carl was known for his love of his Australian Cattle dogs, cherishing the quiet companionship they brought to his life.
Carl is survived by his wife of 61 years, Susan, his two daughters, Caresse Chandonnet (Larry), Stephanie Fountain (Greg), his sister, Velma Gillingham (Larry), and his brother Duane Moushon (Sandy). He was a proud grandfather to Austin Chandonnet, Briana Chandonnet, Cassie Chandonnet, and great-grandfather to Asher Eiges.
