Cabell Regan passed away peacefully April 27 in his home with his wife, Sharron, and beloved dogs, Shep and AnneBelle, nearby.
He was born in Saint Pauls, North Carolina, April 12, 1952, to John B. and Mary Ann Regan. He was the youngest of six children. His childhood was full of happiness and opportunities that come with growing up in a small town and having wonderful caring parents. Many summers were spent at his family’s cottage at White Lake, and he often spoke of the wonderful times they shared there.
Throughout high school he played football, was Editor of the school paper “The Bulldog Bark”, active in Boy Scouts and President of his Senior Class. After high school, he was accepted into the US Naval Academy at Annapolis but chose to go to East Carolina University in Greenville. He later transferred to UNC Chapel Hill. During his sophomore year he was chosen along with 38 other North Carolina students to study and live at a historic manor on the banks of the Rhine River called Haus Steineck in Bonn, Germany. During his time in Germany, the group traveled throughout Europe making wonderful memories and forming lifelong friendships. They continue to get together every two years.
He graduated from UNC in 1974 and later entered the first class of Campbell University’s new Law School in Buies Creek. He graduated in the top 10% of his class in 1979. He started his law career with his brother Breck in Lumberton and ended his career 42 years later in Pittsboro.
Cabell was passionate about bringing life back to the 1888 Victorian farmhouse his great grandfather, Stephen Wiley Brewer built in Pittsboro. The home has been in his family for generations and it was important to him to maintain the character of the home. He even had it listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Completing the home was a labor of love. His final project was having the exterior of the house painted to its original splendor. He was overjoyed with the result. The new paint was barely dry when he lay down and closed his eyes for the last time.
Cabell was a deeply beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He has been a rock to many, a friend to most and would be on your side whenever you needed him.
Cabell is survived by his wife Sharron, his 3 children, Liana Regan (Rich Leonard) of Sanford, John Regan (Jennie) of Charlotte, Jessica Regan (Mark Cannon) of Youngsville and 2 stepchildren, Jackie Burns (Brian) of Indiana and Mike Webb of Pittsboro. He is also survived by two siblings, Mary Brewer Regan of Raleigh and George Regan (Kathy) of St Pauls.
