Bonnie Brosnan Obituary

Bonnie Lou Brosnan, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Pittsboro, North Carolina, on September 4, 2025, surrounded by her devoted husband of 51 years and her loving family.

Born on November 25, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, Bonnie was the eldest daughter of John Francis Barnes and Gertrude Elizabeth George Barnes. She grew up in Connecticut alongside her brother, John “Jack” George Barnes, and sister, Judith “Judy” Barnes Shaver, and graduated from Daniel Hand High School in Madison, CT.

From a young age, Bonnie cultivated a deep love for music, nature, and creativity—passions that would shape her life and touch the lives of many. In her early years, she performed professionally on the marimba with her siblings, traveling to various venues. Their musical journey included a weekly broadcast on the radio show Youth on Parade and even a special appearance on television.

Bonnie brought beauty and comfort to others through her work. She owned a plant nursery business, providing greenery to local offices and hospitals. She also worked as an Avon representative, earning top sales awards and building lasting relationships with her customers through her kindness and dedication.

A gifted crafter, Bonnie found joy in crocheting, sewing, embroidery, and countless other creative pursuits.  Her home was filled with handmade treasures reflecting both the skill and love she poured into everything she did to include sharing many “to be continued” gifts.

Above all, Bonnie treasured time with her family especially at holiday and birthday gatherings, children and grandchildren sporting events, and “just because” visits.   She was the beloved wife of John “Jack” Brosnan and a devoted mother to her three daughters: Donna Lynne Poe (William), Jacquelyn Worman (Gregory), and Michele Brosnan Leighton (A.J.). She is also survived by her sister, Judith Shaver.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Jonathan William Poe, Justin Robert Par (Emma), Kathryn Rose (Worman) Butterfield (William), Samuel Merle Worman, Joseph Merle Worman, Jake Brosnan Leighton, and Shae Elizabeth Leighton; and her great-grandchildren: Ellery Virginia Par, Adeline Margaret Par, Imogen Bonnie Par, Paisley Rose Butterfield, Ellis Crew Butterfield, and Everett Christopher Butterfield (expected October 13).

Those who knew Bonnie will forever remember her radiant smile, her artistic talents, and the comforting reassurance of her favorite phrase, “It will all work out.”

A private family Committal service will be held on her birthday, November 25, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd., Spring Lake, N.C. to celebrate her most blessed life.  Those wishing to honor Bonnie may send flowers to Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery or donate in her name to Amedisys Hospice Care, 220 New Fidelity Ct, Garner, NC 27529.
